Leicester Climbers Doing it 4 Darcy
Another successful fundraising event was held on 1st May when a group from Leicester joined hundreds of walkers who tackled the famous Mourne Challenge trek in Northern Ireland. The gruelling 26 miles covered 5 mountains including Slieve Donard, the highest mountain in Northern Ireland. Blood, sweat and tears were the norm of the day, bumps, bruises and lots of laughs along the way. The weather was perfect for climbing when the 'Doing it for Darcy' party set off from the famous 'Bloody Bridge' at 7.25 a.m. and descended around 12 hours later at 7.30p.m. Family and friends from around Northern Ireland were there to cheer the exhausted group over the finishing line.
A total of £1,500 was raised, added to the £2,000 raised from the Irish Night held in December this will go a long way to achieving our goal of providing a multi sensory room and specialist equipment for Darcy.
Huge thanks to everyone who sponsored the climbers and a special thanks to Maura Breen (Darcy's grand mother), Loretta Harper (Darcy's aunt), Cathering Doherty, Jackie Duffy, Ruth Epstein, Colette Reynolds and Conor Hamilton all friends and supporters who conquered the marathon climb in support of Darcy. Many thanks to Gaz and Oisin Harper who went along to take pictures and boost morale along the way (check out more photos on Gazharperphtos Blog) . Thanks also to the Mourne Challenge organisers who marshalled the climb, provided first aid and a much welcomed soup kitchen at the 13 mile check point.
