Oadby Wyggestonians win JP Morgan Premiership Rugby 7s cup

Oadby Wyggestonian under 14s are celebrating after winning the inaugural JP Morgan Premiership Rugby 7s Cup at Leicester Tigers.

They lifted the silverware after beating Oakham 21-5 in the final at Welford Road, which was played after Tigers' pre-season friendly win over Lyon.

As part of their prize, Oadby Wyggs have also been invited to attend the JP Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s Series Final in 2012 at Twickenham.

Oadby Wyggs qualified for the final after winning all three Pool A games at Tigers' Oval Park training ground.

"It was a day full of fast-running and thrilling rugby," says Scott Clarke, Tigers Academy Manager. "Congratulations to all eight squads and we hope they enjoyed their day and playing on the Welford Road pitch."

The JP Morgan Premiership Rugby 7s Cup is a prestigious 7s festival for under 14s at grassroots clubs, taking place at the 12 Premiership Rugby clubs.

It is the first time the Premiership Rugby clubs have been involved in hosting junior 7s festivals and is giving valuable experience to youngsters, helping in their rugby development and working towards developing the stars of the future.

Oadby Wyggestonian sponsors Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital were also celebrating the win as part of their healthy activities for kids campaign. Andrew Davey, Hospital Director said “We undertake team sponsorships to support healthy activities for kids in the community. We are very proud of the team and intend to be at Twickenham next year to watch them in action”.
