A Leicestershire lawn care company GreenThumb has defied the odds to win a national award.
Despite the recession and a drought that left thousands of lawns in the county bone dry, the company – GreenThumb Leicestershire West – still managed to expand in 2011 and they are looking to recruit extra staff this year.
Founded twelve years ago, GreenThumb looks after almost 6,000 lawns in west Leicestershire, keeping their customers’ grass healthy and free from weeds.
Despite the tough financial climate and last year’s long dry summer that saw only half the expected rainfall in Leicestershire, GreenThumb generated around 1,000 new customers.
Their ability to maintain growth during tough times has earned owners Martin and Michelle Williams a major award as GreenThumb Franchisee of the Year.
GreenThumb, based at the East Goscote Industrial Estate in Leicester, currently employs eight people but is looking to recruit another three staff - a lawn operative, a sales person and an administrator.
Michelle says: “It’s very motivating to win an award like this and the staff were delighted.
“Last year was tough due to the economic climate and particularly dry weather but we remain optimistic about the future.”
