Students Stirred by Harlem Shake - Viral dance craze reaches University of Leicester

Hundreds of students from the University of Leicester took part in the recording of Leicester’s version of the Harlem Shake.

The Harlem Shake is an internet meme that went viral in February 2013. In it, members of the public dance to the song ‘Harlem Shake’ by the musician Baauer for 30 seconds, often in costume.

The video of the University of Leicester event has already attracted over 30,000 views in less than 12 hours. The event, organised on Facebook, began at 4.30pm yesterday outside the University’s David Wilson Library.
Many people chose to wear fancy dress, onsies and some covered themselves in body paint!

Callan Bryant a 5th Year MEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering student (pictured), who took part in yesterday’s Harlem Shake, said: “It was a spur of the moment thing really, it only took 5 minutes to paint me. Someone told me that someone poured milk over themselves during another Harlem Shake video, I was going to do the same, but it was too cold!”
