A Dream Holiday Home for The Disabled
Tucked away along a tranquil lane in Burton on the Wolds, Loughborough is the most amazing home which can accommodate up to 14 guests. Let me introduce you to Gaye Pepper a truly inspirational lady who showed us around the fantastic ‘Peppers Barn’ home - which has all been achieved by pure determination (with the help of local business’s and friends), to offer self catering accommodation for disabled guests and the terminally ill and their families. This is an ideal place for a relaxing holiday or respite break.
‘Peppers Barn’ is built to an exceptionally high specification and is energy efficient with under floor heating and solar panels. The light and airy accommodation commands uninterrupted views over the Leicestershire countryside, providing a peaceful setting for the whole family group to enjoy.
The whole of the downstairs is designed to allow free movement for wheelchairs with all rooms having double doors, no thresholds and the furniture is movable. The downstairs bedroom incorporates a wet room with shower/bath and a tracked hoist (which can hold up to 20st). This runs the length of the room enabling a guest to be hoisted safely from the bed into the bath. Mobile screens allow you to have the privacy each guest needs. The two electric hospital beds within this room can easily be pushed together to form a double bed.
Downstairs is a huge white oak kitchen which is stocked with every conceivable mod con, including a state of the art oven, liquidiser and a full cupboard of glasses. The dining table easily fits 12 with wheelchair access allowing plenty of room. However if you don’t feel like cooking you can always treat the family as the local pub/restaurant is more than happy to supply your meals on a takeaway basis if you wish.
Upstairs features a children’s play area with two further double bedrooms including a childs cot. A bathroom including shower, toilet, wash hand basin and shaver point. This room also incorporates a heater/ extractor unit to keep an optimum comfortable temperature. The mezzanine area contains a double bed settee if more sleeping space is required.
Peppers Barn also has all the usual technology fitted including: Wi-Fi, DVD and flat screen television for your comfort.
The landscaped garden has disabled access that includes a barbecue area with seating. At the front of the building there’s plenty of room for parking and a car port at the front door so you can keep dry between the car and accommodation in all weathers.
‘Peppers Barn’ certainly ticks all the boxes.
