Feed the Birds

Now the Autumn nights are drawing in and winter is almost upon us, spare a thought for the birds in your garden.

Put out food and water on a regular basis. In severe weather, feed twice daily if you can-in the morning and in the early afternoon. Birds require high fat foods during the cold winter weather to maintain their fat reserves and to survive the frosty nights. Use only good quality food and scraps that you have.

Adjust the quantity given to the demand, never allow uneaten foods to accumulate around feeders. Once a feeding routine is established, try not to change it as the birds will become accustomed and time their visits to your garden accordingly.

Birds need to drink and bathe every day - even when it's really cold outside. A pond or bird bath is great, but even an upturned bin lid or plant saucer can give birds the water they need.

By feeding the birds you'll help them get through what can be a tough time of year, so lets look after our feathered friends.
