Walk this way: oadby & wigston walk-in medical centre treats 10,000th patient
Oadby & Wigston Walk-In Medical Centre in Oadby town centre, recently celebrated a milestone after treating over 10,000 patients since opening its doors in March 2010.
Open 365 days a year, from 8am to 8pm, the walk-in medical centre’s extended opening hours have proved popular with the local community. The centre welcomes any patient, whether they are registered there or not, and offers a pre-bookable appointment service alongside the walk-in clinic. It also provides a wide range of NHS services from minor injuries to the treatment of long-term conditions such as diabetes and asthma.
All patients visiting the centre are invited to take part in a voluntary patient survey and the results, taken from over 300 patients have shown that overall satisfaction with the service exceeds 97%.
Local resident Monika Maini is delighted with the service: “I first heard about the walk in centre when my husband fell ill one Saturday night and was treated there. He came home describing the service as ‘brilliant’ so I thought I would give it a try. This is now my third visit and I am very pleased with how quickly I am seen – usually in around 30 minutes. I particularly like that I don’t need to book an appointment and can fit a visit in around my work and family commitments.”
Local Liberal Democrat councillor Zuffar Haq is also very supportive of the Oadby & Wigston Walk-In Medical Centre. He said: “It’s good to see just how many people have benefited from the centre. It is a great advantage for patients to be seen by medical professionals outside of normal GP hours. The feedback I have received from patients has been very positive. It is also very comforting to know that the centre will be open over the festive period, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day between 8am and 8pm, as this is when many GP surgeries will be closed.”
Dr Ahmed Girach, principal GP at the Oadby & Wigston Walk-In Medical Centre, added: “Our patient satisfaction surveys show that patients are very happy with the service they receive at the centre. The location and longer opening hours make it convenient for patients of all ages to be seen and they appreciate this.”
Oadby & Wigston Walk-in Centre is situated in Oadby town centre on The Parade, between Coombs bakery and The Old Library pub. Patients can choose to either walk-in or book an appointment at the centre at a time which suits them.
