Castle to help brides recreate their mother's wedding day

A fairy-tale Northumbrian castle is offering brides and grooms a chance to do something completely different and bespoke for their wedding, by recreating the same menu their mum had at her wedding breakfast, plus as many identical little touches as they can.

The luxurious 14th century, 'time capsule castle', Langley, based in Langley-on-Tyne, is offering this unique slant on a wedding, to demonstrate the degree to which brides marrying within its seven-foot walls can have the wedding of their dreams and not someone else's.

With all things 'retro' being in vogue in Britain at present, recreating mum's wedding has a lovely ring about it, whilst also being sure to surprise guests and provide a real talking point to add to those provided by Langley's amazing interior and grounds.

Brides could be recreating the menu and features their mum enjoyed when celebrating her marriage at Langley, or could be basing their desires on a wedding she enjoyed at any other venue. Langley's wedding planners will do their utmost to try to source and provide as good a match as they possibly can.

If basing their wedding on mum's wedding breakfast at Langley, the happy couple could be treating guests to retro appetizers such as a 'duck, pheasant and spinach roulade carved over a bed of sweet and sour red cabbage', or 'lobster and crab ravioli, set on crisp leaves'. Both graced the Langley wedding banqueting entre menu from April 2002 to March 2003, when a mum could have been enjoying perhaps a second marriage.

The main courses on that menu included fillet of Hexhamshire Beef Wellington topped with a mushroom duxelle, wrapped in a lattice of pastry and laced with a Madeira sauce, and Roast Halibut, encased in a lattice of puff pastry, with risotto rice and a light dill and lime cream.

“Whether you plump for a brandy snap basket with strawberries and cream, or a fresh fruit pavlova, the options we will recreate are as endless as the wedding breakfasts enjoyed by mums from across the country,” says Langley's general manager, Anton Phillips.

“We are celebrating 30 years as a luxury castle operated by our present owner, Dr Stuart Madnick, this year and this offer to recreate Mum's special day is just one of a series of initiatives we will be running, to celebrate our anniversary. With many mums paying for their daughter's wedding, we thought this a lovely way in which the couple can show their appreciation.”

All a couple need do, to start thinking along these lines, is to get details of their mother's wedding and then get in touch with Anton Phillips at Langley Castle, on 01434 688888. Profiteroles and apple filo tart could be in the wedding plan before you know it!
